My Instagram

We found a little egg underneath the passionfruit vine. We searched and searched but couldn’t find a nest that it might belong to, so it’s now a little treasure for us to admire instead. My weekend plans. . I’ve loved every Helen Garner book I’ve read, but I’m a bit concerned about this one 😬 . Also, I’ve been grappling with this Insta business lately. I’m sharing less and less as I struggle with being a contributor in this ‘false perfection’ stream that Instagram often seems to be. . This is such a great space for finding likeminded people. I’m so thankful for the fellow crocheters, bookworms, green thumbs and other slow living enthusiasts I’ve met through this platform, but I worry about the picture I paint of myself in these little squares. . I want to make clear that these photos show just one second, in a day full of seconds, minutes and hours. All the other seconds of my days do not look like my Instagram feed. . I’m saying this as much to convince myself as anyone else. Don’t compare the worst seconds, minutes and hours of your day to the most ‘instaworthy’ second of someone in your Insta feed. . On a day that I share a cute photo of my kids playing nicely, I’ve probably also lost patience with the kids multiple times, ignored them for 15 minutes while I zoned out on the couch with my phone, ignored a pile of washing on my couch for several days or bought McDonalds for lunch because I couldn’t be stuffed making a few sandwiches. These are the things I don’t share on Instagram, but I assure you they happen. . Perfect Instagram feeds do not equal perfect lives. . I need to remind myself of this as I ogle the amazing lives of those I follow, but I also want to assure you all that I definitely don’t have my shit together either.
